 The podcast I was talking about was the TWiT Windows Weekly podcast with
 Leo Laporte (http://twit.tv/ww), I spent an hour today playing it at 150%
 speed, but I can't find the point where they mentioned it... I think it
 was in episode 106 or 107.

 The scenario was, where a person has several computers and turns "auto-
 reconnect" off... there's nothing worse than connecting from your laptop
 while you're out only to find that your home machine keeps disconnecting
 you... so realistically, you have to turn off auto reconnect if you have
 several machines.

 So, if you connect from another machine, then go back to your main
 machine, and forget, you may never know that it's not connected if you
 don't open the buddy list window.  This is where they were suggesting that
 the tray icon should have some way to draw attention to the fact that it
 is waiting for you to click "reconnect"...
