Pidgin is not fetching messages

That was one of my thoughts as well.  The server might not allow pidgin
to reach in and fetch messages, rather it just pushes them out when the
program is actively monitoring.  It's a shame, really...I hate being
forced into the proprietary clients, aka digital handcuffs...
