Error: symbol lookup error after building Pidgin 2.5.1 on Ubuntu 8.04 64bits

Your copy of Pidgin is trying to use the old version of libpurple.  You 
need to uninstall Pidgin and libpurple, then run "sudo ldconfig" and try 
running Pidgin again.
