The reason the account gets erased is that the libpurple internals
can't distinguish the two accounts, it isn't really intentionally
deleted (it is really a bug that allows you to modify the account to
the "duplicate" value after it is created).

There is no supported workaround that I'm aware of - patches to
support distinguishing accounts by resource would probably be
accepted, but it isn't a simple problem unfortunately because the
resource isn't part of the normalized account name.
